Kuchauka retains Liwale Constituency seat

Dar es Salaam. The CCM candidate in Liwale Constituency, Mr Zubeir Kuchauka, has been declared the winner of the by-election held on Saturday, October 13, 2018.

According to a video clip posted in the National Electoral Commission (NEC) website, Mr Kuchauka collected 34,582 of eligible votes, which is equivalent to 85.81 per cent.

Announcing the results, the election supervisor who doubles as the district executive officer (DED), Ms Luiza Mlelwa, said the constituency had 55,777 registered voters and that while 40,706 voters casted their ballots, only 40,301 votes were accepted as 405 were rejected.

“According to the authority placed on me through Section 81(a) of the Elections Act, I declare Mr Zubeir Mohamed Kuchauka who collected 34,582 votes, equivalent to 85.81 per cent, to be the new lawmaker effectively from today,” she said.

She said the UMD candidate Ms Mwajuma Milambo collected 109 votes, equivalent to 0.27 per cent, while the AAFP candidate Mr Abdul Ngarongwa garnered 118 votes about 0.29 per cent.

According to her, the ACT Wazalendo candidate got 285 votes ( 0.71 per cent) and the CUF candidate Mohammed Rashid Mtesa collected 5,207 ( 12.92 per cent) of eligible votes.

Speaking after the release of the results, the AAFP candidate, Mr Ngarongwa congratulated Mr Kuchauka for the victory, noting that it was imperative for someone to emerge victorious.

“Hopefully, next time voters will cast enough ballots to enable me to win the election,” he said.

Ms Milambo, said she respected the voters’ decision and congratulated the CCM candidate for his victory.

“I wish him all the best in his endeavor. But I remind him to serve citizens equally, including those who didn’t vote for him,” she said, adding: “I’m satisfied with the announced results. I’m preparing myself for the 2020 General Election.”
