The speaker of the National Assembly, Mr Job Ndugai, has said condition of Singida East Member of Parliament Mr Tundu Lissu is improving.

Mr Ndugai urged MPs and other wananchi to continue to pray for Mr Lissu, who is admitted at the Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi.

“Mr Lissu’s condition is improving, so let’s all pray for him,” he told the Parliament on Tuesday, September 12.

Meanwhile, the Speaker also ordered Ubungo MP Saed Kubenea to report to the Parliamentary Foreign Affairs, Defence and Security Committee for questioning following his remark about Lissu’s shooting

He will also be questioned by the Ethics committee to prove the allegations that Speaker lied to the National Assembly by saying that Lissu's vehicle was sprayed with between 28 and 32 bullets.

Opposition lawmaker Lissu was shot and seriously wounded by unknown assailants as he arrived at his Dodoma home after attending Parliament’s morning session last Thursday, September 7.

The Singida East MP was shot as he was about to disembark from his car in the municipality’s leafy Area D suburb.

His attackers sprayed the front passenger door of his black Toyota Land Cruiser with bullets after Mr Lissu apparently hesitated to alight from the vehicle.

The MP was rushed to Dodoma Regional Hospital, where he was immediately wheeled into the theatre for surgery to stop bleeding. He was transferred to Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi on Thursday night.
