MOI strikes big deal with Chinese varsity hospital

Dar es Salaam. The Muhimbili Orthopedic Institute (Moi) has signed an agreement on cooperation in the areas of healthcare, research and training with the Peking University International Hospital of Beijing in China.

The agreement was signed by Moi executive director Respicious Boniface and president of the Peking University International Hospital, Ms Hongxia Yu.

A statement released by Moi says that in the deal the institute will benefit from improving super specialised services of orthopedic, brain, back and nerval surgeries.

The signing of the agreement was also attended by Health minister Ummy Mwalimu, Tanzanian ambassador to China Mbelwa Kairuki and the Government Chief Medical Officer Prof Muhamad Kambi.

The move comes after Minister Mwalimu, who is currently in her official visit to China, held talks with the university management on cooperating with Tanzania in improving professional healthcare services in the country.

The university hospital, which has huge experience in orthopedic, brain, back and nerval treatment, has 1800 beds for patients, ICU with 171 beds, 48 surgical units and attends to over 14.7 million patients per year.
