Magufuli revokes appointment of Sumatra board chairman, dissolves board of directors

A State House statement released on Monday, September 24, signed by the director of presidential communications Gerson Msigwa says the head of state has also dissolved the Sumatra board of directors effectively from today.

Dar es Salaam. President John Magufuli has revoked the appointment of the Surface and Marine Transport Regulatory Authority (Sumatra) board chairman, Mr John Ndunguru.

A State House statement released on Monday, September 24, signed by the director of presidential communications Gerson Msigwa says the head of state has also dissolved the Sumatra board of directors effectively from today.

“President Magufuli has made the decision following the capsizing of MV Nyerere which occurred on September 20 and the trend of road accidents that have caused death, disability and damaged property,” reads part of the statement.

The statement said members of a probe committee expected to be unveiled later today by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, will investigate the cause of MV Nyerere accident in conjunction with security organs.

On Sunday, Magufuli dissolved the Tanzania Electrical, Mechanical and Electronics Services Agency (Temesa) advisory board and dismissed its chairman John Ndunguru citing similar reasons.
