A total of Sh204 million has been raised for the treatment of Singida East MP and opposition chief whip Tundu Lissu, who is still admitted to a Nairobi hospital after he was shot by unidentified assailants on September 7.

The money has been donated by Chadema, contributions from Members of Parliament and other people residing in and outside the country.

This was revealed on Friday September 22, 2017 by Chadema national chairman Freeman Mbowe at a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.

He said from the total, Chadema MPs donated Sh484.65 million, mobile banking Sh24.2 million, Sh52 million was deposited on a CRDB Bank special account and Sh43 million was raised by all MPs after deducting half of their one-day sitting allowance.

“Again, we have received $20,387 raised by the Diaspora, who started an online campaign through www.gofundme.com, which was already deposited on the Nairobi hospital account, as the patient will not be transferred to abroad as was planned,” he said.

Mr Mbowe noted that they had received all the money raised except MPs’ contributions from their one-day sitting allowance.
