Dar/Babati. The Minjingu Organic Fertilisers Ltd based here has written a letter of apology to President John Magufuli for using bags with labelling indicating their fertilisers were manufactured by Nafaka Plus Planting Fertiliser, a Kenya company.

Speaking in Babati on Wednesday as he was winding up his visit, Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, who had himself ordered the firm to apologise to the President a week before, said he had seen the copy of the letter that the firm’s management has written to President Magufuli.

The apology letter comes as experts in international business say that by putting misleading information on its bags, the company violated both local and international laws that prohibit using misleading information on business packaging materials.

Dr Donath Olomi told The Citizen yesterday that Minjingu breached the Fair Competition Act and the World Trade Organisation regulations that guide rules of origin of products.

“The WTO requires companies selling products across the border to show the exact place of production. Providing misleading information was wrong,” Dr Olomi, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship Development, told The Citizen yesterday.
