Dodoma. The National Bureau of Statistics has partnered with other stakeholders from the public and private sectors to find ways of filling the data gap in Tanzania in an attempt to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the second Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP).

The two-day workshop is aimed at facilitating data and statistics availability for monitoring the development plan, SDGs Africa’s Agenda 2063 and the East African Community Vision 2050.

“This workshop’s theme focuses on gender parity, governance, peace and security and we discuss data to track progress of those aspects,” said NBS manager for environmental statistics Ruth Minja.

The workshop also discussed how stakeholders could contribute to filling the shortcomings that were identified in the data gap assessment, including establishment or strengthening of multi-stakeholder partnerships.

The stakeholders were also expected to discuss ideas and provide contributions towards the development of the second Tanzania Statistical Master Plan.

The NBS collaborated with the Tanzania Data Lab of the University of Dar es Salaam, Partnership in Statistics for 21st Century ((PARIS21) and government departments and agencies to conduct the data gap assessment, which the NBS is now implementing by convening a series of thematic workshops and discussing the findings.

The workshop brought together stakeholders from across the thematic areas to discuss how their respective departments could contribute to filling the data gaps.
