Yaoundé. The Cameroon-based Nation Media Group (NMG) correspondent has won an investigative journalism award in his country.

Mr Ndi Eugene Ndi was declared winner of the third edition of the Forest Media Awards (ForMA) in the print media category.

ForMA seeks to contribute to the improvement of forest governance in Cameroon through the media.

The competition was organised by a local NGO, the Forest and Rural Development (FODER) and the ministries of Communication and Forestry in collaboration with the European Union, the German International Corporation (GIZ), among others.

Others recognised in the audiovisual and online categories—included Ms Viviane Bahoken of the Pan African television channel, Africa 24 TV, Mr Ebenizer Diki of the Yaounde-based private radio channel, Radio Tiemeni Siantou and a blogger, Ms Madeleine Ngeunga.

The jury was headed by Prof Laurent Charles Boyomo Assala, the Director of the Advanced School of Journalism and Mass Communication (ASMAC).

On the occasion of this year’s International Day of Forests, Mr Ndi spent a week with communities whose home is the dense equatorial forest of Cameroon, trying to understand why the people remained dirt poor despite their abundant environment.
