Nchemba to launch Mara national ID registration

Musoma. The minister for Home Affairs, Mr Mwigulu Nchemba is expected to launch the Mara Region’s national identification registration exercise on Sunday.

Speaking after receiving BVR kits on Monday from the National Identification Authority (Nida), the Mara Regional Commissioner, Mr Adam Malima confirmed that Mr Nchemba will grace the launch.

Mr Malima further disclosed that after the launch, the registration process will get underway on November 22.

According to him, the registration will be carried out in the region for three months, harboring hopes that after the exercise the rate of criminal activities would go down.

He said they have realised that most reported criminal offences in the region were committed jointly by locals and nationals from neighbouring countries.

Mr Malima said they decided to invite Mr Nchemba for the launch due to the fact that the exercise has a link with security of the region.

He added that after the registration, they will give a three-month grace period for people to seek national identity cards short of which they will be arraigned for illegal immigration.

Mr Malima said they were looking forward to registering more than 1. 3 million people.

Speaking at the event, Nida officer Godfrey Surera said the authority has already handed over 300 BVR kits, which will be distributed in all six districts.

Mr Surera said the officials from Nida headquarters will conduct training for those who will be handling the exercise on how to operate the machines.
