Geita/Dar. Nine children died in two separate incidents in Geita and Dar es Salaam on Wednesday October 17.

Out of the number, six were pupils based in Geita who died after they were struck by lightning. A total of 25 others were injured in the incident.

This happened after the lightning struck Emoko Vision Primary School in Geita Region in the morning.

“It was around 9am when the lightning struck. Six pupils were killed and 25 were injured,” said regional education coordinator Yese Kanyuma.

Images circulating on Tanzania social media showed parents gathering at a hospital, which is near the school for news on their children.

Meanwhile, in Dar es Salaam three children based on Njaro Street in Temeke Municipality, were found dead in a grounded vehicle. The children went missing for two days. Efforts by families and neighbours to locate them had failed.

The bodies of the children--Jamila Mohamed, 9, Amina Kunambi, 7, and Yusuph Selemani, 2--were found at around 4am yesterday at the house, which is guarded by their grandfather on Njaro Street in Temeke Municipality.

Mr Seif Mayumba, who is the grandfather of the children, told The Citizen that he was surprised to find the bodies of the children in one of the cars at the compound.

“They came to visit me two days ago and left, but today (Wednesday) I found their bodies in one of the cars. There was a heavy smell around,” he said.

Mr Mayumba said he called the police, who came and took the children’s bodies away for further investigations.
