Over 60 Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) passengers heading to Dar es Salaam from Mwanza were stranded Tuesday, September 19 for over eight hours at the Mwanza airport after a plane scheduled to take them developed mechanical failure.

Calming the enraged passengers, Mwanza Airport Station Manager, Ms Theonestia Accardia, said they have already summoned engineers from Dar es Salaam to repair the plane.

"Our plane has developed mechanical problem… we are working to resolve the issue so that passengers can proceed with their journey,” she said.

She hoped that the technicians will be able to repair the plane and start operations by 5am today.

As stipulated in regulations, she said, all passengers will be taken care of including getting lunch as they wait for the plane to be repaired.

One of the passengers, Mr Mkumba Mkumba, said they were supposed to depart at 8am.

"There are crucial issues which I had to attend in Dar which I have missed… I went through serious trouble to ensure that I get to Dar early only to be stranded at Mwanza airport,” he said.

He wondered why ATCL could not provide them with alternative plane to ferry them to Dar.
