Police hold four Pemba residents over killing

Zanzibar. Police officers in the Isles are holding four persons who are accused of killing a woman aged 21.

Speaking to The Citizen yesterday, August 15, Regional Police Commander (RPC) for North Pemba Hassan Nassir Ali said the incident took place a week ago at Fundo Village in Wete District.

The RPC said the accused were lined up for a court appearance at a convenient time.

He said the deaths had threatened the positive image of Pemba and Unguja, requesting Fundo villagers to cooperate with law enforcers who were gathering relevant information for successful prosecution of the accused.

On August 7, this year, there was a report of the disappearance of a woman at 4.00 PM after she allegedly went for a call of nature. Her body was later found floating in sea water.

Meanwhile, the director of Tanzania Women in Zanzibar, Dr Mzuria Issa called on the police and other law enforcement organs to work hard to net the culprits.

Dr Mzuri Issa said the human rights situation in Zanzibar has been deteriorating to worrying levels among citizens.
