Public warned of frozen properties of PCCB official

According to a statement by PCCB, the general public has been notified that the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court has issued freezing orders against the accused.

Dar es Salaam. The government has warned the public not to buy the frozen properties of a former assistant of the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB), Mr Godfrey Gugai, who is accused of misusing public funds amounting to Sh3.6 billion.

According to a statement by PCCB, the general public has been notified that the Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court has issued freezing orders against the accused.

“The orders on freezing the assets of the accused, Godfrey Gugai, were issued following an exparte criminal application no. 13 of 2017 made by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) under section 38 (1) of the PCCB Act, no. 11 of 2007,” said the statement.

It was stated in the statement that some properties on which the freezing orders have been issued include several apartments including four double storey buildings on plot no. 64 Block B, Ununio and three double storey buildings on plot no. 150 Kitatu 8, Bunju, apartments on plot no. 225 Block 6, Mbweni JKT, all the apartments are located in Kinondoni.

Others are five motor vehicles, several plots in Tanga, Arusha, Mwanza, Musoma, Dodoma and Morogoro.

However, it is said that basing on the court’s request, the public should not engage in any transaction related to the said properties while the orders are in force as PCCB will not be responsible for any consequence suffered thereafter.
