Babati. Manyara Regional Commissioner, Mr Joel Bendera, has directed District Commissioners and other leaders at all levels to take stringent measures against people found liable of damaging or spoil water sources.

Speaking here over the weekend, Mr Bendera urged leaders to sensitise the public on the need to safeguard the environment as a way of ensuring sustainable agriculture and availability of water and pastures.

He said anyone who will be found spoiling the environment should be handed a stiff penalty in accordance with the environment law.

“The law is very clear that no human activities are permitted within 60 metres of the water source. The government will start demolishing all structures within this borderline. We are doing this for the interest of the communities which depend on the water sources,” he said.
