Dodoma. The government has directed regional commissioners to set aside land, which will be used by the youth horticulture projects.

Moreover, she divulged that despite being a promised a promised way to create new employment, the envisaged national-wide project will stimulate economic grow in all regions.

“The project is just one among diverse plans by the fifth phase government to eradicate poverty and unemployment among local youth population, much more project are in pipeline,” she observed.

She detailed that as per the 2012 National Census on Population, youth counts for at least 16.2 per cent of the country’s population (more than 44million people), added that, out of 25million people with ability to work in the country, youth counts for 56 per cent.

However, the minister said it was a grim statistics to lean that as per the 2014 Tanzania Labour Force Census, 11.7 per cent of youth who are able to work are unemployed.

“It is for this reason that the government through my ministry is working restlessly to ensure potentials by local youth are fully utilized for the economic development of the country,” she added.

She reminded RCs to coordinate effectively with their district executive directors to assure there are enough lands in their areas for the said youth’s projects.

So far, in more attempts to support youth in Tanzania the government has launched a National Youth Skill Development Programme (NYSDP) at a cost of Sh15billion.

The timely program targets to reach a total of 80,000 youth from across the country by imparting them with effective skills on key sectors like tourism, masonry, agriculture and manufacturing leather products.

More than 2,000 have so far been involved in the program and are now undergoing the said training at varied vocational training institutions in the country.
