Iringa. The Iringa Urban Member of Parliament, Reverend Peter Msigwa plans to sue a number of Police Force officers for allegedly intervening in his official duties as representative of the people.

Mr Msigwa said he was to file a case against Iringa Regional Crime officer because the police denied him his constitutional right of speaking to his electorates at Mlandege ward in Iringa.

“Yesterday (Sunday, September 24) they held me from 5:30 in the evening to 21.15, accusing me of inciting people, something which I didn’t do... they also claimed that my remarks during the rally caused fear and created hostility between state organs and residents,” said Msigwa.

Mr Msigwa reported to the police today morning, September 25, as a condition he was given after being released on bail on Sunday.

The firebrand MP said he felt humiliated after the police pulled him down from the podium, when he was addressing a rally.

“I am contacting my lawyers to see what legal measures we can take against the police officers… I didn’t do anything wrong because I had a police permit to hold the meeting and I didn’t address beyond the time,” said the outspoken MP.

Rev Msigwa (Chadema) was released on bail last Sunday night, September 24,  after spending almost three hours at Iringa central police station. According to Chadema regional youth wing (Bavicha) chairperson Leonce Marto, the bail was granted after he secured two sureties Mr Marto himself and Iringa Municipal Mayor Alex Kimbe.

Mr Msigwa was arrested on Sunday 5.20pm for allegedly uttering seditious remarks, when he was addressing Mlandenge villagers in Iringa Municipal Council.

He was pulled out from the podium, when he was addressing a rally by the police led by the regional crime officer (RCO).
