The reigning Kagame Cup champions have not won the league title for the past two seasons, each time playing second fiddle to titleholders Young Africans.

Dar es Salaam. Azam FC coach Zeben Hernandez has called for patience after his team opened the 2016/17 season with a 1-1 draw against African Lyon at home.
The Spaniard, who guided the club to their first Community Shield recently, has predicted a tough season, harbours hopes of transforming the club into a winning outfit.
The Chamazi based club will welcome Majimaji FC of Songea for their second league match and Hernandez believes that his boys will deliver a magnificent performance to bag the points at stake.
“The opening match draw is enough to tell the competitiveness of the league. However, I am confident that Azam will soon be a force to reckon with this season,” Hernandez told the club’s portal.
“We need time to achieve our goals, so it is important to be patient. We have analysed our first match and addressed the weak areas, so I have good feeling that we will take maximum points from Majimaji.”
After an uncharacteristic display at their home ground on Saturday, Azam returned to training on Tuesday with the coaches looking focused on honing the attacking department. The reigning Kagame Cup champions have not won the league title for the past two seasons, each time playing second fiddle to titleholders Young Africans.

“We understand that the management and fans want something to celebrate at the end of the season, so we will work even harder to ensure that Azam have positive end,” he said. “Players are still gelling as a team, there is improvement, but I hope it will get it even better with time. “The most important thing for my players is to stick to my playing philosophy. We can perform wonders this season.”
Hernandez replaced Stewart Hall who mutually parted ways with the club he led to several titles.
