Dar es Salaam. After shining in the just-ended Youths Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, Argentina, up and coming Tanzanian swimmer Dennis Mhini has secured a chance to study and swim for the English famous club and school, St Felix in United Kigndoms.

Dennis finished third in the 100m freestyle competition clocking 58.53 seconds to score 514 points before taking the third spot in 50m backstroke at 29.79 seconds and managing to garner 525 points.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Mhini’s father, Hamis Mhini, said his son did well in swimming as well as in studies to join the famous school. He said the school was under the best coach, Sue Purchase, who visited the country during the 2016 National club swimming championships held at the Hopac in Dar es Salaam.

He explained that the school, located on the outskirts of Southwold, a coastal town in Suffolk, had so far managed to produce many famous swimmers in the world.

“The school is focus for both sport (swimming) and academic performance, my son did well to meet the criteria set by the school management, we are very happy as he joins other global promising swimmers of the club,” said Mhini.

For his part, Dennis said he was very happy to get the chance and believed he would do his best in the game.

“I’m now going to swim for the best club; I am sure of improving my swimming standard and becoming the best to represent my country in international assignments, especially in the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games and the World Championships,” said Mhini.

The Tanzanian promising swimmer said he had been able to gain experience in the Youths Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires and that for him facing challenges would be a catalyst of making him successful in his career.

“I used to swim in 25 metre swimming pools which are below standard, but now I’m going to swim in a world class swimming pool, with good diet. This will inspire me to have rapid changes toward my success,” said Dennis.

The St Felix School Swimming Club was formed in 2004 to enhance growth and performance of the school’s swimmers, who are gaining recognition within the school as well as the county at large.
