Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’s up-and-coming table tennis player Sara Alidina has promised to shine in the Coast Regional Finals, which will start on June 14 in Malindi, Mombasa.
The 13-year-old, who topped Mombasa’s sub-county and county table tennis tournament in girl’s category, said she has trained well ahead of the event and her target is to feature in the Kenya national championships later this year.
Alidina is currently fine-tuning her skills at Aga Khan Academy in Mombasa. She is only Tanzanian in the championship. “I am ready for the regional championships, I know it will be a tough event, but I have trained well here, so I have nothing to fear come Wednesday,” said Sara.
“My goal is to qualify the national championships, so I will make sure that I take medals in several categories because the winners automatically qualify for the national event.”
During qualifying matches, Alidina played five matches and managed to win all by 2-0 to sail through to the Mombasa County Games.
The Mombasa county games featured various schools and clubs around Mombasa including St. Charles Iwanga, Mama Ngina, The Aga Khan Academy and The Coast Girls amongst others.
Sara’s father Rahim Alidina congratulated his daughter for her performance.
