Firm to award Rio Olympic team

Dar es Salaam. Tanzanian athletes who featured in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil will on Sunday be honoured at a special gala night organised by MultiChoice Tanzania.

Tanzania was represented by seven athletes in Rio de Janeiro.

The athletes include Judoka, Andrew Thomas Mlugu, swimmers, Hilal Hemed and Madgalena Moshi, and runners, Sarah Ramadhani, Alphonce Simbu, Saidi Makula and Fabiano Joseph.

Despite the fact that the athletes failed to win a single medal, Simbu made the country proud after finishing fifth in marathon while swimmer Hilal Hemed was top in his group during the heats in the 50 meters freestyle, even though he failed to qualify for the finals.

The event has been scheduled to take place at Serena Hotel in the City and all seven athletes and officials from various sports bodies will attend according to Furaha Samalu Marketing Manager of MultiChoice Tanzania.

“Minister of Information, Culture, Artists and Sports, Nape Nnauye will grace the event that starts at 5.30pm to honour efforts made by our Tanzanian athletes in Rio 2016,” she said.
