A sombre mood engulfed the Moshi Golf Club yesterday after the death of the club’s top golfer Mohamed Sadik.

Sadik died on the spot on Sunday night when a car he was driving collideded with other vehicles.

The accident occured at Kikatili area in Arusha.

During his amateur career, Sadik once served as a competition secretary and then a full secretary of the Tanzania Golf Union, working well with former chairman of the body, Hussein Omari.

He was a useful link between TPC Golf Club of Moshi and the rest of the entire golf fraternity across the country, including Tanzania Golf Union (TGU).

He played a key role in promotion of the country’s new generation of players from TPC. The golfers include Hassan Kadio, Adam Mohamed, Philip Mwakarobo to mention but a few.

Veteran professional Salim Mwanyenza expressed his shock and despair at the sudden death of the amateur golfer, who was one of members in the golf family that kept Moshi Club ‘alive.’

“We shook hands before I left for Dar es Salaam after the Tanzania Open Championship at Kili Golf Club in Arusha,” said Mwanyenza.

‘May almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace. He worked hard for development of the sport (golf) in the country,” he said.

“We still needed more from him but we have been restricted to limitations imposed by the almight God,” Mwanyenza added.

According to Mwanyenza, the late Sadik used to be their best competition secretary.

“He used to treat me in the most compassionate way whenever we visited TPC for golf tournament”, said former TGU boss Omari, now in Kanyigo, Bukoba.

Sadik’s death comes barely a month after another recreational golfer Miraji Mwanyenza died in Dar es Salaam.
