Kagera Sugar clash with Olympic Star in friendly

It is a build-up match ahead of the kickoff of the 2017/18 Premier League season, which is expected to start on August 26.

        Dar es Salaam. Tanzania’ premiership outfit, Kagera Sugar will be in action today when they take on Olympic Star in a friendly match at Umuco Stadium in Muyinga Province in Bujumbura.

It is a build-up match ahead of the kickoff of the 2017/18 Premier League season, which is expected to start on August 26.

Kagera Sugar will start their new season campaign with a match against Mbao FC at Kaitaba Stadium.

Other matches, which will be played on the first day of the new season, will pit Simba SC against Ruvu Shooting at the National Stadium while Azam FC will be in action against Ndanda FC at Nangwanda Sijaona Stadium.

On the same day, Mwadui FC will take on cash-rich Singida United while Mtibwa Sugar will face Stand United, Njombe Mji vs Tanzania Prisons and Mbeya City will host Majimaji.

The defending champions, Young Africans, will open the season with a match against Lipuli FC, a day after their free-spending rivals Simba play.

Speaking about the match, Kagera Sugar head coach Mecky Mexime expressed optimism that it would help strengthen his squad ahead of the league kickoff.

“Olympic Star are currently the champions of Burundi’s President Cup, so we are looking forward to a challenge that will help strengthen the team,” said the former Mtibwa Sugar coach.

He disclosed that after playing Olympic Stars, they would swing back into action tomorrow with a date against former Burundi Primus League champions-- Vital O’.

According to Mexime, the team would fly back to Bukoba soon after the match against Vital O’.

Kagera finished third in the 2016/17 Premier League season and are gunning to move a step further in this season’s campaign. “We want to perform better this season, so everyone here is enthusiastic and ready for the new season,” the coach added.
