Key Yanga players to miss Simba SC clash

Dar es Salaam.  Young Africans will miss the services of its two players, Obrey Chirwa and Geofrey Mwashiuya due to injury.

The team’s camp in Pemba, however, got a boost after the return of goalkeepers, Beno Kakolanya and Youthe Rostand.

Young Africans are training ahead of the Community Shield encounter against their arch rivals Simba SC scheduled to take place at the National Stadium on August 23. Simba SC is in Unguja preparing for the match.

Before the return of the two goalies, the the Jangwani giants only remained with one goalkeeper, Ramadhan Kabwili, who stood between the posts in two friendly matches, against Ruvu Shooting at Azam Complex and later against Mlandege at Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar.

Kabwili who is U-17 national soccer team, Serengeti Boys goalkeeper showed good game in both matches.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Young Africans Information officer Dismas Ten said Rostand has fully recovered and started training in Pemba while Kalolanya is still training partially.

Ten said that Chirwa and Mwashiuya will not be part of the team in the very important match as they would not  have recovered.

“It is a big blow to us for missing Chirwa and Mwashiuya. They are committed players, but you cannot force them to play due to serious injuries. Our technical bench has done the best and the remaining players will give us smiling face after the encounter,” said Ten.

He said that they are taking the match seriously ahead of the match and want to retrieve their history for winning the title for the sixth times.

“We have a history of winning against Simba SC in the community shield matches. We are the first team in history, but we lost through penalties last year match against Azam FC. It is our time to win this year,” he said.

The team has so far dominated the Community Shield matches since its establishments 2001. Young Africans won 2-1 at the Uhuru Stadium thanks goals from Edibily Lunyamila and Ali “Tigana” Yusuph. Simba Sc scored through Steven Mapunda.

The Jangwani side also won 3-1 through penalties in 2010, thanks goals from late Geofrey Bonny, Stephano Mwasyika and Ghanaian defender, Isack Boakye.

Simba SC won the first community shield match in 2011 with 2-0 victory at the National Stadium in August 17. Simba SC goals were scored by Haruna Moshi and Felix Sunzu.

The team has recorded five titles comparing to Simba SC which has won two times.   In the list of champions are Mtibwa Sugar and Azam FC which have won once each. Jangwani side won also 1-0, 3-0 and 8-7 (penalties) against Azam FC.
