Dar es Salaam. Excitement, fanfare and a carnival mood will likely grip the National Stadium on Saturday when newly crowned Mainland champions Simba take on Kagera Sugar.

President John Magufuli is among soccer fans expected to turn up at the 60,000-seater venue to witness the Premier League clash.

The President will be the chief guest at what promises to be an exciting match, according to the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF).

This will be the first time for the Head of State to witness a Premier League match.

Simba were crowned Premier League champions on May 10 after their traditional foes Young Africans succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Tanzania Prisons at the Sokoine Memorial Stadium in Mbeya.

Speaking to reporters yesterday, the TFF president, Wallace Karia, said the federation would also hand over the Cecafa Under-17 Challenge Cup trophy to Dr Magufuli after the match.

The national Under-17 soccer team, Serengeti Boys, claimed the Cecafa Challenge Cup title in Bujumbura, Burundi on April 29 after beating Somalia in the final.

“President Magufuli will also hand over the Mainland Premier League trophy to Simba,” Karia said.

The TFF boss asked soccer enthusiasts to turn up at the National Stadium in large numbers on Saturday, saying preparations for the match were on course.

Meanwhile, Karia said preparations for the 2019 Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations finals were on course.

Tanzania will host the finals for the time since the youth championship’s incision.
