Mwakinyo wants Sh110m in a fight, says promoter

Dar es Salaam. Boxing promoters wishing to organise international bouts involving Tanzania’s Hassan Mwakinyo, will have to set aside a $50,000 (Sh114 million) cash prize for the boxer, it has been revealed.

Mwakinyo, who holds the World Boxing League (WBL) and Universal Boxing Organisation (UBO) International super welterweight titles, is one of the best boxers in the country at the moment.

“After racking up three straight victories in two months, Mwakinyo believes he has what it takes to floor world class boxers,” the boxer’s promoter, Ali Mwazoa, told The Citizen yesterday.

“Any international fight involving Mwakinyo is unquestionably a high-profile bout in world boxing and anyone wishing to stage a fight like that has to set aside at least $50,000 for the boxer,” he added.

Last month, the gifted boxer proved his worth in the sport by registering a knock out (KO) win against Joseph Sinkala at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.

It was the third victory for the Tanga-based boxer since recording a technical knockout (TKO) win against England’s highly-famed professional boxer, Sam Eggington two or so months ago.

He stunned the Briton on September 8 in London before registering a first round KO win against fellow Tanzanian Saidi Yazidu on October 20.

Mwakinyo, who is SportPesa Tanzania ambassador, has been flooring his opponents almost at will this year.

According to Mwazoa, the boxer knows he would get a big purse if he beats a top boxer from Europe or America.
