Dar es Salaam. Simba SC assistant coach Jackson Mayanja is convinced that the Msimbazi Street side has grown stronger and will genuinely contend for the Vodacom Premier League title this season.

Simba, who last won the league title four seasons ago, kicked off the 2016/17 season with a bang and have so far collected 10 points from four outings.

They jointly top the 16-team table with Azam after mauling stubborn Mtibwa Sugar 2-0 on Sunday.

Speaking with The Citizen yesterday, Mayanja said the team has clicked into gear, believing that they can fight neck-and-neck with the likes of Azam and Young Africans for the coveted silverware.

“It is too early to predict the champions of this campaign, but at least we can see light at the end of the tunnel. The boys have shown a high level of maturity the matches we have so far played,” said the Ugandan coach.

“We appreciate the players for their desire and high level of commitment; this is one thing we have improved significantly compared to the previous season.”

According to him, Simba now boasts the deadliest attacking line in the league compare to other teams.

Simba’s frontmen in Laudit Mavugo, Shiza Kichuya and Ibrahim Ajibu have already scored seven times in just four matches.

Meanwhile, Simba’s left back, Mohammed Hussein has been awarded a car by the chairman of the club’s players’ registration committee, Zacharia Hanspoppe in appreciation of his loyalty to the club.
