Dar es Salaam. Simba Sports club has continued dominating the top position of the Mainland Tanzania Premier League, following 1-0 victory against Tanzania Prisons at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya Region.

Simba SC captain John Bocco was the hero of the match after scoring in the 84th minute following defensive blunders made by Tanzania Prisons defenders in the exciting encounter in the famous Southern Highlands Region.

This is the sixth victory for the Msimbazi Street boys since the league started in September 26, this year.

The victory made one of the soccer giants in the country to collect 22 points from 10 matches, while Tanzania Prisons remained in the sixth position with 14 points.

Goal scorer John Bocco said they deserved to win the match despite strong opposition from Tanzania Prisons in the encounter.

Bocco said they had dominated the match since the start and missed various clear scoring chances.

“I am very happy to win the match. It was our target as we look for the title. The match was very tough and our opponents played well to stop us from scoring since the start. All in all, we managed to collect three important points,” he said. “We are now focusing on the next match against Lipuli FC at Uhuru Stadium. We want to continue dominating the top position until the end of the league and crown the title for the first time after four seasons,” said Bocco.

Tanzania Prisons top striker Mohamed Rashid blamed their defenders for failing to clear a long ball from Simba SC goalkeeper Aishi Manula.

“It was mistakes from our defenders. Although they were four, they failed to contain two Simba SC strikers Bocco and Laudit Mavugo and scored,” said Mohamed.

At the Mabatini ground in Cost Region, Ruvu Shooting won 1-0 against Ndanda FC thanks to a goal scored by Abdulrahaman Mussa, while at the Majimaji ground, Majimaji won 2-1 against Mbao FC and Stand United recorded a barren draw against Mwadui FC at Kambarage Stadium in Shinyanga Region.
