Stage set for Wrestling Federation’s elections

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Amateur Wrestling Federation (TAWF) will hold its general election on October 27 this year at the Msasani Beach Club in Dar es Salaam.

Speaking yesterday, the National Sports Council (NSC) Information Officer, Frank Mgunga, said candidates applications forms are available at the Council’s office, at the  National Stadium, and on its  website, <www.nationalsportscouncil.go.tz>. The deadline for lodging applications is October 19.

Mgunga said candidates screening exercise will be held on October 26, and those who are seeking to be elected to the posts of president and vice president are required to pay Sh50,000 application fee each.

Other posts to be contested are those for secretary General, assistant secretary general, accountant/treasurer, information officer, and three executive committee members. Application fee for these positions is Sh30,000.

All payment must be paid through NSC account number <2040110001>.

He said that candidates are required to be TAWF members aged from 25 years upwards -- and must not be convicted criminals. 

Candidates for the posts of president, vice president, secretary general and assistant secretary general must have at least Ordinary Certificate level of education.

“I call on all wrestling stakeholders with the vision of developing the sport to contest in the general election with the view to taking wrestling to the next higher level of development,” said Mgunga.
