TFF, football stakeholders congratulate new minister

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has congratulated newly appointed minister for Information, Culture and Sports Harrison Mwakyembe and is looking forward to working closely with him.

“We would like to congratulated Dr Mwakyembe on his new appointment as minister for Information, Sports and Culture,” Malinzi said.

“We are looking forward to working with him closely towards the further development of football in our country,” he added.

President John Magufuli appointed Mwakyembe as his new minister for Information, Sports and Culture, in a Cabinet reshuffle announced by State House yesterday.

He replaces Nape Nnauye.

“Dr Magufuli has appointed Dr Harison Mwakyembe as minister for Information, Sports and Culture,” a statement by the Director of Presidential Communications Gerson Msigwa notes, without a mention of Mr Nnauye.

Dr Mwakyembe is a former journalist and lawyer who previously served in the ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Prof Palamagamba Kabudi, who was recently appointed a member of parliament has been named the new minister for Justice and Constitutional Affairs.

Malinzi has high expectations for Mwakyembe, saying his organisation is looking forward to working with the new appointee for the benefit of the football community and the nation at large

Mwakyembe’s appointment comes at a time when the national soccer team, taifa Stars, is fine-tuning ahead of the Africa Cup of nations (Afcon) and Champions of African Nations (Chan) qualifying matches.

Nnauye’s appointment was revoked hours before handing the national flag to the national athletics team in Arusha.

The runners left for Kampala, Uganda yesterday for the IAAF World Cross Country Championship opening on Sunday.
