TGU poised to pick team from Dar Open

Dar es Salaam. Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) will deploy a panel of coaches to pick the national team during the Dar Open.

The two-day tournament will tee off on Saturday at Lugalo Golf Club. The event takes place yearly and brings together some of the finest talents in the country. Tanzania is expected to field the national team at the East and Central Africa Championship, which will take place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in October.

TGU chairman Joseph Tango confirmed yesterday that they will send a team to compete at the Addis Ababa tournament, adding that the country’s representatives will be picked from the forthcoming Dar Open.

Tango named the clubs that have confirmed participation at the forthcoming event as Dar Gymkhana Club, Moshi Club, TPC, Arusha Gymkhana Club, Kilimanjaro Club of Arusha, Morogoro Gymkhana Club and Misenyi Club of Kagera.

“Preparations for the Dar Open are in place and we are looking forward to having close to 150 golfers from seven TGU-recognised clubs,” the chairman said. According to him, each club would be represented by both amateur and professional male and female’s golfers who will slug it out in five categories; namely Division A, B, C, juniors and seniors.

“We are looking forward to an exciting tournament considering the number of the golfers who are expected to compete,” he added.

Tango called upon all golfers interested in the competition to confirm their participation by midday.

The Dar Open has bankrolled by Stanbic Bank and Puma Energy.

Stanbic Bank‘s head of corporate and investment banking Thomas Bisonga said they have decided to support the tournament as part of their social responsibility.
