Dar es Salaam. Soccer giants Young Africans today face African Lyon in a special friendly match at the National Stadium that will also double as a campaign against poaching.
The match has been scheduled to kick off at 4pm, according to African Lyon Owner Rahim “Zamunda” Kangezi. Kangezi said poachers have killed many elephants and the two teams have joined forces against the vice.
He said that his players were in top form ahead of the encounter, saying the game will also be used to unveil the squad to Dar es Salaam soccer fans.
African Lyon started the Mainland Premier League title campaign by playing three matches in Lake Zone region. They managed to draw twice and lost one match and are now placed 16thth in the 20-team league.
“All players are doing fine and will be facing their first tough match with new coach Lionel Soccia from France and attacking midfielder Victor Da Costa. I call on soccer fans to attend the duel which is aimed at conveying a message against elephant killing in the country,” said Kangezi.
Team head coach Soccia said they are ready for the encounter and their target is to win the match.
Although Yanga is a strong team, Soccia said they had prepared for victory.
“I have a squad of committed players who fight from the start to the end. Players are in top shape and ready to make history. It will be a tough match as we are playing against a top team in the country,” said Soccia.
Young Africans Information officer Dismas Ten said their mission was to win the special match in order to develop a winning streak.
“Our focus is to win the match and maintain our record,  it is a very important match and our technical bench will field all prominent players in the encounter...it is also a test for our squad,” said Ten.
