Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) has launched a countrywide operation to seize secondhand undergarments.

Last week TBS officers stated removing used undergarments from Tandika Market in the city.

TBS inspector Emmanuel Simon said the operation was aimed at ensuring secondhand undergarments are not used by Tanzanians as they could infect users with skin diseases.

‘’The campaign is in accordance with the Standards Act of 2009 that prevents the use of secondhand undergarments,’’ he said.

Speaking on September 17 to MCL Digital, the director of the Forum of Businesspeople, Silver Siondo, disowned importers of used undergarments and therefore would not defend them.

“We have not registered them; we don’t know them. We help our members only,’’ said Siondo
