Harare. Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai is responding well to treatment in South Africa and has dismissed negative media reports about his condition, an official said Monday.

Luke Tamborinyoka, the spokesperson for Tsvangirai, said in a statement that the 65-year-old politician will be back home soon."He reiterated his message that Zimbabweans must concentrate on registering to vote in the next election," Tamborinyoka said.  The Movement for Democratic Change leader said there was no need for national alarm about his condition and castigated prophets of doom that he said were keen on creating alarm and despondency, Tamborinyoka said.  Tsvangirai disclosed last year that he is suffering from colon cancer and has been receiving treatment from South Africa. He was airlifted to the neighboring country last Friday for routine treatment of the disease.  Tsvangirai is expected to challenge President Robert Mugabe in next year's polls. He has contested against the veteran Mugabe since 2000 but lost in all the elections. (Xinhua)
