By Daniel Msangya, The Citizen Correspondent Deputy minister for transportation Athamani Mfutakamba told the MPs yesterday that currently the government is in consultation with financial institutions such as the Bank of Arabs Development for Africa (Badea), the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Arabs Emirates and other private investors for the implementation of the project. Responding to question by Bahi MP (CCM) Omary Badwel, the deputy minister said currently, the government is in the final touches to complete the feasibility study for the international airport at a cost of Sh715.5 million sponsored by Badea. The MP queried why it has taken so long for the government to implement its plans for the construction of the state-of-art airport in Dodoma. Mr Mfutakamba said 1,432 residents surrounding the earmarked site for the construction of the international airport at Msalato have already been compensated to pave the way for project. He said the government recognised the importance of building a modern international airport in Dodoma in a bid to improve air transport infrastructure. “Dodoma is the capital city of the government, thus it deserve to have a large airport. The government has been embarked on preparations for the construction of the airport at Msalato for a long time,” noted Mr Mfutakamba. |
