By Daniel Msangya, The Citizen Correspondent Dodoma. A Member of Parliament yesterday queried over delays in implementing promise made by President Jakaya Kikwete to provide reliable water supply to Tabora residents. Special Seats MP (CCM) Munde Abdallah said the implementation of the promise was still pending for years while Tabora residents continue to suffer from acute shortage of water. She tasked the government to explain strategies in place to implement the unfulfilled promise to provide the region with water through a Lake Victoria-Kahama water project. In his response, the deputy minister for Water, Mr Gerson Lwenge, said the government has already embarked on preparations for the implementation of the promise to supply Tabora Urban with clean water from Lake Victoria.
“Terms of references for the consultant who would be engaged in architectural design have already been prepared and submitted to the World Bank for approval,” said Mr Lwenge.
He said the architect design is expected to start in the 2011/12 fiscal year. “The government has so far allocated 637.5 million for architect design and the project would be undertaken through Water Sector Development Programme (WSDP),” noted Mr Lwenge.
