TTB responsible for flop in Mount Kilimanjaro rating  Send to a friend

Tanzania lost a golden opportunity to promote tourism by having Mt Kilimanjaro in the list of Seven Wonders of the World. With 19,340 feet (5,895m), the mountain is the highest in Africa. It is  the world’s highest freestanding mountain — to boot.

Still it was not listed in the provisional New Seven Wonders of Nature in November 2011 and the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) should shoulder the blame as it did little to promote the voting process. The process started in 2009 but TTB started exhorting the public to vote almost at the end of the process.

It is a shame that many votes came from other countries and not Tanzania.

Had the board created awareness on the importance of voting for the mountain, the situation would have been different.

South Africa vigorously promoted the voting for Table Mountain and is on the list.

South America's Amazon rain forests led the pack followed by Vietnam's Ha Long Bay, and Argentina's Iguazu Falls.
The other four natural wonders are South Korea's Jeju Island, Indonesia's Komodo Island, the Philippines' Puerto Princesa Underground River and South Africa's Table Mountain.

The 7 Wonders list is a scam and a money-maker for the foundation behind it. Anyone tourism board that supports it is a sucker to this enterprise.
