Assad should go to end Syria bloodshed  Send to a friend

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad should step down as it is evident that Syrians no longer want him as their leader.
Assad seems intent on clinging on to power at any cost.  Thousands of people have died in a bloody uprising that began ten months ago, but there is no sign that the dictator is about to relinquish the leadership he inherited from his father, Hafez al-Assad, in 2000.

It is clear that Assad is living on borrowed time, and he should read the signs of the times before he suffers the same fate that befell Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, who was ready to raze Libya to the ground in his quest to retain the power he held for 42 years.

Countries such as Russia and China, which are propping up the Assad regime, should understand that what is happening in Syrian is an entirely internal matter.  It is Syrians who want regime change after 40 years of dictatorship.
