Corruption in CCM worrying  Send to a friend
Tuesday, 27 July 2010 22:08

If someone somewhere were to conduct a survey on corruption in political parties in East and Central African, I am sure CCM would top the rankings.

Corruption is a big problem in the ruling party, particularly in the run-up to and during elections.

It is thus not surprising that party chairman Jakaya Kikwete recently directed the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) to came down hard on corrupt practices during the party’s nominations ahead of the October General Election.

Dozens of candidates and their supporters have been questioned by the PCCB and bribes disguised as donations seized since the CCM primaries kicked off a fortnight ago.  Those questioned include a district commissioner vying to be elected as a Special Seats MP.

It is worth noting that many other parties are also conducting their nominations in readiness for the October 31 elections, but it is only the CCM primaries that are fraught with corruption allegations.

I have yet to hear of candidates being questioned by the PCCB over bribery claims in the Chadema, CUF, NCCR-Mageuzi and UDP nominations.

Would I therefore be wrong if I conclude that CCM is the most corrupt party in Tanzania?

If these people who would sell even their own mothers to get elected do indeed capture the civic and parliamentary seats they are craving for, then God help Tanzania.

Patriot,
Moshi.
