The beginning of any year is a sensitive time. It is during this time that we have the unique opportunity to set the tone for the days and months to come. If you want this year to be different from last year, this is the time to proclaim it. Everyone around you might look like they’re just ambling along, taking each day as it comes, but the reality of it is that most people have done some preparation for the year ahead. Some people fast and pray. Others may do a detox cleanse. A few make substantial financial offerings to God via their houses of worship. And some even make sacrifices to ‘the spirits’. There are few people who enter into a new year without some thought as to how they will make it to year-end relatively unscathed by the vagaries of life. It may be as simple as a few minutes spent being still and reflective on the eve of the new season, a resolution to do things better or a prayer for a higher power to make things better. Whatever it is, most people will do something. But then there are those people who stumble blindly into new beginnings with no plan or purpose, other than a dimly lit vision of the future in general. I used to be one of those, and I know them well. It is much easier to believe that life will take care of itself. That things will magically work out in the end. And for a lucky few that may happen. But for most of us, we need to plan and pray, and not particularly in that order. We need to make a declaration that we desire things to go our way. That we expect a year of favour, and reject one of insurmountable hardship and disappointment. It is important to put those words out there because if we do not mark our territory – even within the confines of our own minds – it becomes a free for all. The problem with free-for-alls is that there are people whose annual plan it is to divest others of ideas and assets that they are either not aware of, or don’t value enough to protect. Sometimes it suits our purposes to live in an endless zone of grey, but the truth is that things are either black or white. If you’re not planning for success, then ultimately, you are planning for failure. It’s that simple. There are no ifs, buts or maybes about it. So take the opportunity this month to visualise the future you desire. Then make a plan to turn your vision into reality. Love and light, Julie This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
