By Christine Chacha Nairobi on a Friday has always been the right place to start your weekend and indeed it was. This city’s night life culture is a phenomenon that is known and respected almost everywhere. Immediately, after checking in, I called a couple of old friends who were more that ecstatic to hear from me. “Let’s live our campus life tonight” they suggested, cocktails!
Mention cocktails in Nairobi and everyone automatically thinks Mwenda’s cocktail Pub. Located at Utalii house, this place is a darling to anyone who does not fancy the normal brown bottle. In fact, we arrived with a new friend and when he asked for a Tusker all necks turned as others burst into laughter.
Cocktails with imaginative names like Dark F**k, Sex appeal, old favorites Pina Coladas and Bloody Mary. With cocktails going at Ksh280 and I highly recommend Mudslide Shooters at Kshs150 , I think Hezbollah (recipe includes fire!) and the killer B52 (this one will take you out) would do!
This is the only place where you are allowed to mix drinks and invent a name for it and it’s placed in the menu (if its deserving). I cannot recall all the names of the cocktails that we drank that night but I do know that I woke up with no recollection of how I got there.
The music is on point and you can dance yourself silly without feeling shy because everyone is busy drinking. Its a good place to be when I want to do tequila’s like a mad woman. No place can be all perfect, the crowd is too much; they should consider expanding the place to make way for new patrons.
