CEO Roundtable gives awards to two non-profitable organisations  Send to a friend

Dar es Salaam. The CEO Roundtable of Tanzania has recognised two non-profit organisations as winners of the roundtable’s public sector partner of the year award.

The awards went to CCBRT and SOS Children’s Villages, whose exemplary work with the disabled and destitute children, has caught the attention of the selection committee.

Speaking during the third annual awards gala dinner over the weekend, the chairman of the CEO Roundtable, Mr Ali Mufuruki, said the awards showed CEOs’ gratitude and respect for civil society’s leadership, generosity and courage that they do for the country.

SOS Children’s Village operates more than 500 children’s village in 132 countries including Tanzania.
“These villages care for and protect children who are abandoned, destitutes or orphaned,” he said.
The three SOS children’s villages in Tanzania are at Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.

They are home for 387 children, while a further 1,425 children are supported from within their own family environments. “The award is dedicated to passionate and committed kindergarten teachers, parents and other members of staff that every day strive to make a difference in the children’s lives at the villages,” said Ms Rita Kahungara, the executive director of SOS Children’s Villages.

She said, the support from both the government and the private sector, has enabled to help children live to their dreams adding that the organisation was set to open centres in Mtwara, Mwanza and Mbeya next year. The other awardee was CCBRT, which started in 1994 as an NGO, but has grown to become the largest indigenous provider of disability and rehabilitation services in the country.

“What is remarkable about CCBRT is not only the massive impact the institution has had on thousands of lives…it is also the innovative ways of working especially the application of inexpensive technology to achieve a huge impact in communities,” said Mr Mufuruki.

According to him, the CEOs have in the past recorgnised senior government officials and even diplomats for distinguished service and presented them with awards as a mark of respect and gratitude for their commitment to building bridges between the public and private sectors in Tanzania.

The CEO Roundatable Public Sector Partner of the Year award went to K.V Bhagirath, High commissioner of India to Tanzania for his exemplary leadership in assisting the CEO Roundtable to secure scholarships for senior police officers to train in advanced anti-cyber crime techniques in India.

Established eleven years ago by CEOs of leading companies to engage in economic policy analysis and dialogue with the government

 at the highest levels, the CEO Roundtable comprises the top leadership of all major commercial enterprises in Tanzania.
