Iringa. An Association of Disabled People in Iringa District has expressed their dissatisfaction on how the government has been dealing with the on-going doctors strike in some major hospitals in the country.

The chairman of the association, Mr Steven Mwakipesile, said that it was higher time the government saw the sensitivity of the matter and sought an amicable solution to the doctors concerns.

He said that if the government and medical practitioners would not reach consensus, most people especially the disabled who depend on public healthcare services would be at risk.

In an interview with The Citizen yesterday, Mr Mwakipesile said it was the common people and not leaders who suffer the most as the authority and the medics lock horns.

“The government should see the way to handle the ongoing medics strike to avert suffering and loss of lives,” he said.

There have been reports that for almost a week now, healthcare services have been deteriorating in some major public hospitals in the country and there were some reports of deaths associated with the strike.
