Nachingwea. The Nachingwea District Commissioner, Mr Elias Goloi, has directed village, ward and division leaders to closely supervise implementation of development projects in the district.

Opening a district consultative council meeting recently, the DC said some earmarked projects have stalled due to poor supervision by the local leaders. Mr Goloi ordered local leaders to ensure that they discharge their responsibilities judiciously.

He also directed them to ensure that development projects are implemented as planned.
“I have information that agriculture projects in Matekwe Ward and education projects in Nkotokuyana Ward have not been completed,” he told the meeting.

Available reports show that an agricultural project worth Sh16 million was earmarked for Matekwe Ward last year while in Nkotokuyana there were plans to construct teachers houses, some of which were of poor quality.

Mr Goloi warned ward and village leaders that they should step down if they are unable to fully discharge their responsibilities.

He directed the district authorities to make a follow up on the performance of local leaders and take appropriate action against those who would be sleeping on their jobs.

“People expect good results from us and it is part of my job to ensure that every leader in the district delivers,” he insisted, saying he would not tolerate local leaders who would fail to perform.
