By The Citizen Reporter Dar es Salaam. The management of Form Two national examinations should be put under the National Examination Council (Necta) in order to make them a serious tool for gauging pupils.Currently the examinations are managed by zones which subject them to poor control and supervision, according to Tusiime Schools director Albert Katagira.
Mr Katagira made the remarks when commenting on the performance of this year’s Form Two national examinations in which his school emerged at 11th position out of 302 schools in Dar es Salaam Zone.
He also suggested that the government should introduce a system of issuing certificates to Form Two finalists, as there were some who were not likely to go beyond that level.“This will encourage them to study hard and if they fail to continue they will have something to prove that they have reached that level of education,” he said.
Speaking on strategies to improve education among Tanzania’s young generation, Mr Katagira said there was a need to find linkages between secondary and vocational education. “We should create environments which will enable vocational training centres to absorb as many youth who finish secondary school education as possible. By doing so we will be preparing people who will be able to employ themselves upon completion of their training,” he said.
For his part, the schools’ academic master Obadiah Mwambapa said hardwork was the major secret behind the good performance of the school. He said that his school has performed better in Biology and History where it was 10th out of 302 schools. The school clinched twelveth position in Geography and Chemistry, 15 in Civics,17 in Basic Mathematics, 17 in Physics, 18 in English and five in Commerce.
