The opposition Chama Cha Jamii (CCJ) has appealed to the Registrar of Political Parties to grant the party full registration to enable it take part in October General Election. The CCJ publicity secretary, Mr Constantine Akitanda, told a press conference in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the delay by the registrar to grant his party full registration is intended to weaken it ahead of the forthcoming election. Mr Akitanda accused the Registrar of Political Parties of receiving instructions from the ruling party on how to perform his duties which is legally wrong. He refuted allegations that some senior government officials and CCM leaders doubt the credibility of CCJ as the new party has often been linked to disgruntled CCM leaders. “Any person not satisfied with the structure or policies of any political party is free to start his own or cross over to another as he/she wishes without breaking any provision of the constitution. He said to deny CCJ full registration was a gross violation of democracy and the rule of law in the country, adding that CCJ was open to all Tanzanians who want change in the country’s leadership. He said CCJ now scares CCM more than any other opposition political party and the ruling party would prefer its registration is delayed until after the General Election. He spoke of the need to elect to power a political party that will uphold democratic principles and rule of law. He appealed to Tanzanians to support CCJ to make leaders in the country accountable. for their misdeeds. |
