By The Citizen Reporter The Prime Minister, Mr Mizengo Pinda, arrived in Kigali yesterday from Ghana, ready for a one day meeting which will dwell on the implementation of Millenium Development Goals (MDGs) in Africa. A statement issued in dare s Salaam yesterday by the ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Coopetratuoon, Mr Pinda was scheduled to attend the preparatory meeting yesterday and present the government report on the status of MDG implementation in the country. It is expected that views from the Kigali meeting would make a report which will be tabled at the summit on the Millennium Development Goals which has been scheduled for September 20-22, this eyar at New York, US. President Paul Kagame of Rwanda has been picked by other African heads of States to present the stamement on behalf of the contunent. The United Nations merting which set the MDGs in 2000, aimed at abolishing poverty, diseases and reduce maternal mortality by half by 2015. While in Kigali, Premier Pinda will also represent president Jakaya Kikwete in ceremony to swear in President Kagame today. Meanwhile, before ending his tour in Accra, Ghana, Premier Pinda has opportunity to visit Akosombo electricity dam. Speaking with journalists on Saturday after touring tha dam during the visit he said the dan puts Ghana in a better positin to join hands with other countries which make the Economic Organisation of West Africanm States (Ecowas) to increase their electricity output. Akosombo dam, built on Volta River, is located some 130k from Accra. He said current the danm was capable of producing 1,020MW but they are not enough due to hi demands and the Volta River Authority is forced to use natural gas to produce additional 400MW to meet the demands. |
