By The Citizen Reporter The Registrar of Political Parties, Mr John tendwa is today expected to give a ruling on a petition against Chama Cha mapinduzi (CCM) presidential candidate, Mr jakaya Kikwete filed last week by Chama cha Demokrasia na Maendeleoa (Chadema). In the petition, Chadema want the Registrar to delist Mr Kikwete as presidential candidate because he has allegedly flouted section 21 of the newly enacted Elwectiion Expenses Act. In the petition, Chadema alleged that the CCM presidential candidate promises issued in Mwanza and Kagera region were against the section 21 of the said law. While in Mwanza, President Kikwete promised that the government would take Sh5 billion debt owed to Nyanza Cooperatiove Union and in Kagera he promised the residents of the region a new ship to replace MV Bukoba which sunk in 1996. Chadema also claim that in Mwanza President Kikwete announced an increase to civil servants pay. The party wondered why Mr Kikwete had suddenly decided to increase salaries when it was only a few years when he declared that there would be no pay increase even if workers went on strike. But CCM and President Kikwete have brushed of the petition as ridiculous. In its response, CCM has asked the Regsitrar to throw out the petition because it lacks merit. Addressing a rally in Kyela constituency in Mbeya region last week, Mr Kikwete, wondered why Chadema has decided to petition against him while all he was doing is telling people what his party has in store for wananchi. Mr Kikwete told a campaign rally at John Mwakangale grounds that the petition would not deter him party from fulfilling its promises. “I am wondering why our colleagues don’t want me to say what I am saying. How can I stand at a dais in a campaign rally and remain mum? I must tell people what I and my party have planned for them... I need to tell people what we have planned to implement after election,” he said. |
