By Habel Chidawali The Citizen Correspondent Dodoma. The youth wing of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (UVCCM) has hailed former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa for making them self-reliant through establishing income generating projects.
In addition, it also castigated people who accused Mr Lowassa of entering into a shoddy deal for the wing’s project to build a skyscraper in Dar es Salaam. The UVCCM acting chairman, Mr Benno Malisa, said Mr Lowassa’s intention was to make sure that the wing had income generating projects. He made the remarks when inviting the CCM secretary general, Mr Wilson Mukama, to a meeting attended by UVCCM secretaries from all regions held here yesterday.
In 2008 there was a friction between Mr Lowassa and the CCM publicity and ideology secretary, Mr Nape Nnauye, with the latter accusing the former of entering into a shoddy deal. Mr Nnauye made the accusations when he was vying for the UVCCM national chairmanship while Mr Lowassa was a trustee of the wing’s council.
Mr Nnauye had also accused the then UVCCM chairman, Dr Emannuel Nchimbi, now minister for Information, Culture and Sports, that the project was for his personal interests. The barbed remarks by Mr Nnauye forced the wing to remove him as a member when the then CCM secretary general, Mr Yusuf Makamba, vowed that Mr Nnauye would not have been reinstated to the wing even if he had appealed to God.
“We should be realistic. The UVCCM buildings in Dar es Salaam will start to generate income in May this year. These are the fruits of Mr Lowassa,” said Mr Malisa. On preparations for UVCCM elections, Mr Malisa said they were in full swing, and would produce a new cadre of leaders for the wing.
Meanwhile, Mr Malisa sent a message of condolence to the bereaved family of the Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (Chadema) special seats MP, Ms Regia Mtema, who died in a road accident on Saturday.
