The Civic United Front has criticised the Chama Cha Mapinduzi for blocking the Catholic Church in Musoma Diocese from continuing with the construction of a hospital in Musoma Municipality. Speaking during the launch of campaigns yesterday, the Musoma district CUF chairman, Mr Didi Koko, said the hospital buildings were constructed in the mid-1980s through contributions of peasants, civil servants and business people following a request by the late Father of the Nation, Mwalimu Julius Nyerere. He said construction of the hospital was stopped following allegations that some CCM leaders in Mara Region had spent some of the funds against intended plans. However, he said the Musoma diocese of the Catholic Church requested to be allowed to continue with the work in order to ensure reliable health services for residents of Musoma and surrounding areas, but CCM leaders refused. He further said former Prime Minister Edward Lowassa had ordered that the church be allowed to go on with the construction. However, CCM leaders in Mara Region remained adamant because they wanted the ruling party to be given the right to continue with the construction, he said. In another development, Mr Koko said it was amazing to see that political parties participating in the current campaigns had signed the code of ethics that should be obeyed by all politicians, but some CCM aspirants were going against them. He explained that some CCM aspirants were dishing out gifts, including beer, to voters so that they can vote for them during the October election. However, no measures were being taken against them despite the Prevention and Combating of Corruption Bureau (PCCB) in Mara Region being aware of what was going on, he claimed. |
