Dar es Salaam. The embattled NCCR-Mageuzi’s Kigoma South MP, Mr David Kafulila, won a political reprieve yesterday after the High Court temporarily suspended the party decision to strip him off his membership. Lady Justice Alice Chingwile granted an application Kafulila filed at the High Court last week in which he sought an order to suspend last week’s NCCR National Executive Committee (NEC) move to expel him from the party until a main case he filed at the same court to challenge the sacking is heard and determined. The court order comes a few days after Mr Kafulila went to court to challenge his ejection, which went along with an application for injunction order to block execution of the stern decision against him.In his main case, the young politician is asking the court to nullify the NEC’s decision, which would consequently lead to his losing of the parliamentary seat, on the grounds that it was unconstitutional. The outspoken politician was expelled for alleged misconduct and masterminding a plot to oust the party’s chairman, Mr James Mbatia. Until yesterday evening NCCR-Mageuzi leader had not been served with the injunction order but Mr Kafulila’s lawyer, Mr Daniel Welwel, told The Citizen that they would present the decision to the party leaders today. The order means Mr Kafulila has all the legal rights to carry on with his legislative duties as usual, and he appealled to voters not to lose hope following NCCR’s decision. “The most important thing is that I will continue to serve the people of Kigoma South…so I urge them to cast off all doubts after what transpired recently,” he said over the telephone. On December 18 this year, Mr Kafulila and three other NCCR-Mageuzi members including the party’s last year’s general election presidential candidate, Mr Hashim Rungwe, were ejected from the party for alleged misconduct and running an underground campaign to oust Mr Mbatia. Mr Kafulila entered the conference venue confident he would oust Mbatia but in an interesting turn of events he ended up being crucified and stripped of his membership.
